Healthy residents enjoy a Nordic walking session.

CHESTER residents are invited to take part in a series of taster sessions for an activity gathering both popularity and pace – Nordic walking.

Nordic walking, or walking with poles, burns up to 46 per cent more calories per session because of the additional upper body muscle usage.

The sport, which has gained a huge following, can also help to relieve and improve neck, back and joint pain by improving posture and reducing pressure on joints.

Cllr Richard Short, executive member for culture and recreation, said: “Nordic walking is a new and interesting low-impact and healthy activity which allows people of all ages to take part.

“Each course includes full equipment and professional coaching from a trained instructor.

“I would encourage people of all ages and abilities to come along and try out this new activity – which could be a great way to keep active and healthy without putting too much stress on the body.”

Free taster sessions will take place on:
Monday, September 13, from 6pm-7pm at the café at the Little Roodee Car Park, in Chester.
Tuesday, September 14, from 11am-noon at Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port.
Tuesday, September 14, 1pm-2pm at Wirral Way Car Park by the Cricket Club, Neston.
Tuesday, September 14, from 3.15pm-4.15pm at Chester Millennium Greenway Car Park, New Scene Youth Centre, Chester.

Participants can then book their place on a range of six-week courses.

Booking in advance of the course date is essential. For further information or to book on to one of the above courses contact Jane Harding on 07798 575353 or Emma Brown on 01606 288559.
