FOUR new signs have been installed along a popular Chester pathway in a bid to help cyclists and pedestrians “share with care”.
Following the route of a former railway line, the signs are sited on either side of the former Blacon Station along the Blacon Greenway, at the bottom of the access ramps from Egerton Road and Saughall Road.
The Greenway, which provides a traffic-free means of travelling to Chester and North Wales, is for use by everyone including pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers, runners, horse riders, people commuting to work and children travelling to school.
Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) executive member for community and environment, Cllr Lynn Riley, said: “The council has worked with Sustrans and local residents to install these signs so that those using the Greenway through Blacon are aware of the need to consider that this is a shared route and of the need therefore to respect the right of other users.
“We want all residents and visitors who use this national route to be able to travel safely and get the most out of this fantastic resource.”
Blacon Cllr Reggie Jones added: “The Blacon Community Forum members have listened to the concerns of residents plagued by a small minority of inconsiderate cyclists along the Blacon Greenway.
“The Greenway is extremely popular and the new signage will make it clear that it is much more than just a cycle route and will help develop the need to foster a mutual respect between cyclists and pedestrians. The Greenway should be enjoyed by everyone.”
