A DAREDEVIL from Chester is planning to soar thousands of feet into the air strapped to an aeroplane.

Roger Devonside, of Tarvin, has previously raised thousands of pounds for charities after taking to the skies.

The daring 64-year-old holds the world record of wing walking for every sponsored plane including Cadbury’s Crunchie, Utterly Butterly and Guinot.

The dad-of-two, who is one of only a handful of wing walkers in the world, is now planning to break his own record in March in aid of SPACE, a charity for disabled children.

He said: “It is very scary but very exciting, quite a rush.
“These charities come to me and ask if I can do something exciting for them to help raise their profile.”

Roger said he remained heavily involved in charities, and comperes Christmas events for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and organises fundraising dinners with speakers including boxing legend, Sugar Ray Leonard.

He hopes this wing walk will raise the profile of Hilary Holden, who was involved in a wide-range of charities in Chester including the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, in Backford, and Claire House Children’s Hospice, on the Wirral.

“This year for the wing walking feat there is a television programme coming here to feature me,” he added.

“I am a guest speaker on that show.

“It will also be a tribute to Norman Jackson who in the Second World War climbed out on to the wing of a Lancaster bomber while it was on fire. This happened while the Lancaster was flying at 200mph at 20,000ft.”

Roger added: “I will be setting a new wing walking record after completing the most wing walks with sponsored planes.

“This time I will be flying on top of a Boeing Steaman biplane doing aerobatics, with pilot Martin Carrington.

“I will be walking for Breitling, the new sponsors.”
