SHOPPERS in Chester city centre are been urged to keep their wallets and purses close by after three people were targeted by  thieves over the weekend.

The purses were stolen from handbags in the Frodsham Street, Foregate Street and St Werburgh’s Street areas of the city between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Saturday, March 13.

Sgt Ian Stead said: “I would ask shoppers to make sure they keep their purses at the bottom of their handbags and keep their bags zipped up and on their shoulder. In the majority of purse theft cases, purses have been at the top of the bag and the bags left open or on the floor.”
