A YOUNG entrepreneur from Ellesmere Port has won an international award for his mobile business.

Ian Appleton, managing director of mobile communications specialist, Righttxt, has won ‘young entrepreneur of the year’ award at the Mobile Start Up awards, which were held at the GSMA World Mobile Congress.

The awards were held for the first time this year, as part of the GSMA World Mobile Congress held in Barcelona in February 2010.

Ian, 28, from Ellesmere Port, was the only British nominee to feature, and came out on top of leading innovators in mobile communications from across the globe.

The awards are open to any company with a mobile based offering that has been trading less than 12 months.

Along with the other nine finalists, Ian was invited to give a 10-minute presentation to the judging panel about his mobile marketing business.

Mr Appleton said: “This award acknowledges how far Righttxt has come in a short space of time; it is amazing to have received international recognition for the commitment to innovation we bring to the mobile communications sector. It’s a really exciting time in which consumers and business leaders are now empowered by smart phone technology and communicating with your target customers can happen in an instant.”

Righttxt was also nominated for the ‘best Mobile Start Up’ award and reached the final ten, but lost out Dutch company Layar.
