A CHESTER dad will battle up steep hills while carrying a 35lb rucksack to raise cash for military charities.
Andrew Hunt, who works for the Muir Group Housing Association at its head office in Chester, is preparing to tackle the PARAS 10.
The challenge involves competitors following the 10-mile march route of the Parachute Regiment’s ‘P’ Company Selection at Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire.
Money raised from the event is donated to Help For Heroes and The Parachute Regiment Charity.
Andrew said: “You watch the news and see these chaps who have lost their legs and arms and it really makes you think.
“I’ve got two sons of fighting age and I don’t want my boys to go off to war, so the least you can do is help out.”
Andrew, 49, completed the race last year with his 21-year-old son, Ben, in a time of two hours and four minutes.
The Paras are expected to complete the course in a minimum of one hour and 50 minutes. This year he is tackling the challenge with his other son, Sam, 19, and neighbour, Les Welch, 54.
The father-of-two has already beaten the £300 he raised last year, thanks in part to £100 sponsorship from his employer Muir Group Housing.
“I enjoyed it last year and it was a challenge but you always think you could do better,” added Andrew.
“I’ve been doing a little bit of training but perhaps not enough.
“I’ve been jogging with a rucksack and walking up hills.”
