HUNDREDS of families flocked to a local beauty spot this week to enjoy a community fun day.

Youngsters and their parents took part in crafts, games and drumming in Ellesmere Port on Wednesday, which was organised by local PCSO Claire Whomes.

The event which was held at Seacombe Drive Park came at the peak of the summer holiday period, before children return back to school.

Attractions on the day included face painting, a BBQ, basket weaving, drumming workshops, archery, a bouncy castle, sports and donkey rides.

The fun day, designed to bring the community together during the school holidays, was funded by councillors Bob Crompton and Kimberley Anderson using their member’s budgets for community projects.

PCSO Whomes said: “Everything was free for visitors on the day. It was great to see so many families coming along and getting involved. We had activities for all ages from a craft tent to climbing wall and bungee ride.”

During the fun day there was also a chance to talk to members of the Ellesmere Port Neighbourhood Policing Team and learn more about policing in the area in the force’s exhibition vehicle.

PCSO Whomes said: “Lots of people came into the exhibition vehicle either to talk to the team about issues they have in the community, use the interactive equipment to learn about policing or simply to say thank you for a nice day out.”
