EDUCATION bosses have signed an agreement with a university in Lebanon in a bid to forge stronger international links.

Representatives from the Université Saint-Espirit de Kaslik (USEK), Lebanon, and the University of Chester signed a memorandum to declare their intention to increase co-operation. It is hoped the move will encourage exchanges between teaching staff and students in Lebanon and the UK.

Vice-chancellor at the University of Chester, Professor Tim Wheeler, said: “We were delighted to welcome our guests from Université Saint-Espirit de Kaslik to see both the city of Chester itself and explore links between our two institutions.

“By signing this agreement we pledge to work together to provide opportunities for both staff and students to learn from each other and share best practice.”

The guests from USEK, the Rector Father Hady Mahfouz and executive assistant Dr Georges Yahchouchi, were given a tour of Chester including a visit to the University’s Riverside Building, the City Walls, the Rows and Chester cathedral.
They also met with a range of representatives from across the University’s different faculties.

The Memorandum, which was signed by Prof Wheeler, provides a framework to explore educational opportunities.
