A GIRLS' hockey team from Chester has been crowned the winners of a regional competition.

The King’s School U11s girls’ hockey team, who are the current Cheshire Mini Hockey champions, recently competed in the North West Mini Hockey Championships, held at Upton. After going head-to-head with teams from Stockport Grammar School, Queen’s School and Kirkham Grammar School, the team qualified to represent the region in the North finals at Leeds University. School spokesman Daniel Bourhill said: "The team’s success has been accredited to its excellent defence, with goalkeeper Sophie Reeks, 10, Megan Gareh, 11, and captain Annie Powell, 11, rarely conceding a goal."
