A COLWYN Bay care home is set to give the town a major jobs boost.

More than 50 positions will be created at the purpose-built Merton Place care home, which is scheduled to open on Pwllycrochan Avenue in September.

The facility, which will be managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association (part of the Pennaf Housing Group) will offer specialist nursing services, and will require staff for all facets of the home including care practitioners, laundry workers and catering assistants.

An open day is planned for June 9 at Colwyn Bay Job Centre for anyone interested in the roles.

Chris Dinwoodie from Pennaf Housing Group confirmed the recruitment process would be spread over three phases and vacancies would be available for six qualified nurses, 16 care practitioners, two cooks, two cook assistants, two laundry staff members and two domestic assistants.

Workers would be ready to start in August in time for the home's opening in September.

Mr Dinwoodie said: “While some of the vacancies ask for particular qualifications, we’d also like to encourage those who may have the experience of looking after others, but perhaps don’t yet have the formal NVQ qualifications.
“As employers we are committed to the on-going training and development of all our staff, and what is key to these appointments is that we have employees at Merton Place who are dedicated to enhancing the lives of residents by respecting their individual needs.”

Colwyn Bay Town Councillor, Alice Robinson, welcomed the announcement of extra jobs for the town, and was “encouraged” by the training opportunities.
She said: “50 jobs is fantastic - especially for Colwyn Bay. I’m very pleased indeed.”

Anyone interested in the positions can make an appointment for the Job Centre Open Day on June 9 by phoning 01492 614846 or 01492 614891.
