A CHESTER businessman hopes to lead Chester FC to victory tomorrow as he takes over the role of manager for the day.
For the club’s pre-season friendly this weekend, manager Neil Young will step away from the dug out to let Andrew Donaldson, of Big Storage, take charge.
The Chester Businessman of the Year and one of the sponsors at the Exacta Stadium, will take the reins after bidding for the chance to become club manager for the day at the Blues’ end-of-season awards night.
Blues fan Andrew bid £1,600 for the opportunity – the money will be given to the club’s youth team.
Boss Neil Young joked that he is looking forward to a little ‘relaxation’ away from the dug out when Andrew steps in to his shoes for the game in the Direct Cup versus FC United of Manchester (FCUM).
Neil said: “Andrew will be the man at the helm on Saturday and will be talking with players and working with assistant coach Gary Jones in the exact same way as I normally do, so he has the reins for the day. Obviously I will be guiding in terms of team formation etc as we still need to get as much as we can out of the game.”
Jokingly he added: “However, I am looking forward to a little relaxation on the day and I am happy to step aside – then if we do get beat Andrew can take the stick on Monday.
“With Andrew’s bid of £1,600 contributing to the new youth team at the club I thought it was only fair that he got value for money and taking the reigns against a team like FCUM will hopefully be a day to remember, particularly if we lift the trophy.”
Prior to kick off there will be a penalty shoot out between supporters from both sides with the result of that shoot-out determining the main game should it end all square at full-time.
Saturday’s action at the Exacta Stadium gets under way at noon.
