FORDEN Football Club look set to resign from the J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League just two games into the new season.
Player-manager Adam Knight revealed the club had reached its decision in midweek after their 3-2 defeat at fellow Montgomeryshire League newboys Newtown Wanderers.
The club was formed in the summer with former Welshpool manager Knight taking the reigns but problems over the use of the Forden community pitch have now risen.
The community council felt the pitch would be damaged if used by the new Forden side as well as the village's already established Sunday League side which competes in the Newtown Football League.
A nearby field was offered for Forden to develop into a new pitch but without the necessary financial resources the club has opted to withdraw.
"It's a great shame as we had worked hard in the summer to form the club in the first place and felt we had an agreement with the council which we appreciated.
"Unfortunately we were later informed there had been concerns over possible over use of the pitch. In fairness the community council offered the club an alternative pitch but we are a new club and simply cannot afford to purchase goalposts and ground equipment.
"It is a great shame as we had really hoped to represent the village in the Montgomeryshire League again and I don't suppose the club will reform in the future."
Community council chairman Tim Davies was shocked the club had withdrawn and insisted the council had deeply hoped for a compromise.
"It is disappointing the club has withdrawn, " said Davies. "As a council we can appreciate how anything which can bring the community together, such as a football club, is a benefit to Forden.
"However we felt the pitch would be damaged with both a Saturday League side and Sunday League side, particularly in the winter months when the pitch does get heavy.
"We hoped a second pitch could be prepared so both sides would have separate pitches as a way of avoiding over use of the current pitch."
Davies hoped the village would soon revive its Montgomeryshire League side with the village's former club one of its longest serving members prior to it folding in 2007.
