NEWTOWN have snapped up Nicky Rushton to help with their survival bid this season, on a busy transfer deadline day for the club.

The 19-year-old forward (right) has agreed a four month loan to the Robins from Blue Square Premier League side Wrexham and will make his bow at Port Talbot Town.

Manager Bernard McNally has also boosted his squad with the signing of former TNS striker Marcus Ashley and midfielder Connor Courtney from Wellington.

The club have also secured the loan signing of Wrexham’s Welsh under  19 international Max Penk and former TNS youngster Nicky Jones, who both made their debuts last week.

Leaving Latham Park after just three games are midfield duo Ashley Wells and Ben Evans, who both arrived in the summer from Shrewsbury Town.

McNally said: “I am delighted with these signings and I cannot wait for the weekend.
“Nicky is a powerful young striker who will benefit from the game time at Newtown, having impressed while on loan at Airbus UK last season.

“Max is a Welsh under 19 international and showed himself capable at this level.
“The loan deals run until Christmas but if both clubs feel there will be a benefit in extending them, then I would hope we could negotiate an extension.”

McNally hopes his transfer deadline day business can act as a springboard to improved fortunes and insisted optimism remains high at the club.

“I am much happier today than I was a week ago, both in terms of squad numbers and the overall quality,” he said.
