NEWTOWN will bid to climb off the foot of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier at Port Talbot Town this weekend.
Manager Bernard McNally insisted optimism remains high despite their defeat at home to Bala Town last weekend, which saw the club sink to the foot of the table.
“It was a frustrating game,” said McNally. “We competed for 80 minutes but made two stupid mistakes, which allowed Bala to break, and we were punished.”
Robins supporters were left unimpressed by a disappointing home debut but McNally insisted his young charges will improve as the season progressed.
Wrexham defender Max Penk has joined on loan until January, while the Robins have also signed unattached former TNS youngster Nicky Jones.
McNally hoped to complete his summer rebuild ahead of the close of the transfer window in midweek.
McNally added: “With the budget we have available the best we can do is look for promising youngsters who have the potential to step up.
“Max is a Welsh under 19 international, while Nicky is keen to show what he can do at this level.”
Defenders Kevin Davies and Kieron Mills-Evans will press for a place in the squad, along with midfielder Ashley Wells who missed last week.
