A DRAMATIC retelling of a classic JB Priestley novel, a Shakespearian comedy, hard rock performances and an appearance by an international comedy legend all feature in the forthcoming new season at Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay.

The curtain goes up at the Victorian venue on September 14, following a major £738,000 front of house redevelopment, with the first show, Godspell, a musical performed by Contrast Theatre Company running until September 16.

The Houghton Weavers, one of the country’s most popular folk/comedy groups, returns to the theatre on September 24 with their own unique blend of music, humour and audience participation.

Bred In Heaven, an exciting tour of a new theatre piece inspired by the rugby-based 1978 BBC film ‘Grand Slam’ comes to Theatr Colwyn on September 26 courtesy of Frapetus Productions, while the interactive Welsh language show Gardd Gerdd Hudol Iori looks set to be a popular show for children aged five and under and their families.

On October 15, Theatr Colwyn will welcome its patron, former Monty Python, actor, writer and director, Terry Jones, who will be joined by Phill Jupitus from Never Mind The Buzzcocks for a special Python afternoon followed by a screening of Monty Python and The Holy Grail and a talk on stage.

All proceeds raised on the day will be split between Theatr Colwyn’s second phase redevelopment fund and St David’s Hospice.

JB Priestley’s classic tale, An Inspector Calls, which explores how prejudices in class, age and sex can prevent people from acting responsibly, will be performed on October 7 by Liverpool’s Black Box Theatre Company, followed by a visit by Vienna Festival Ballet on October 19 with the evergreen and always popular ballet, The Nutcracker.

For rock lovers there will be plenty of headbanging and moshing on October 21 when AC/DC tribute band Heatseeker perform live.

And for fans of the Bard, Shakespearian battle of the sexes Much Ado About Nothing on October 26 is sure to appeal.

With lots more including the Rialto Film Club screenings, the Thin Lizzy Experience, plays including Up 'N' Under and The Importance Of Being Earnest and the popular panto, there is plenty to enjoy at Theatr Colwyn.
