MOTORCYCLISTS flooded one of North Wales' major roads to protest about proposed regulations.
On Sunday more than 500 bikers took part in a go-slow protest on the A55 as a demonstration against a set of EU laws which could threaten the rights of owners to modify their machines and force motorcyclists to adhere to regular roadside checks.
The protesters are also concerned by domestic legislation in France which would require riders to wear high visibility/reflective clothing, prohibit filtering between cars during traffic jams, and prohibit bikes over seven years old from urban areas.
The A55 protest, which began at Abergele and ended near Penmaenmawr, was one of 105 demonstrations organised across the UK by the Motorcycle Action Group, a 40-year-old riders' rights group which aims to protect and promote motorcycling and represent the interest of bikers in lawmaking debates.
The nationwide protests saw more than 40,000 bikers take part and Jeff Hinton, head of the Abergele branch of the MAG, said the protest had been "brilliant".
He said: "It was a brilliant ride and we made our point. Whether it has any influence on those in Brussels, who knows?
“But if we don't make our views known, nothing will happen.
"The procession was about three miles long with a tailback as long behind us, but that's the unfortunate consequence of what we're trying to do.”
