Strong family showing for Wrexham AC athletes

IT was a real family outing for Wrexham AC athletes competing at the opening round of the North Staffs Crosss Country League at Winsford.

Darren Rowlands ran in the men’s race while daughter Emily competed in the under 17 women’s event, and Paul Evans ran in the men’s race after watching sons Thomas and James in action.

Rowlands finished second in the over-40 men’s age group and was sixth overall in the men’s race with a time of 36 minutes 24 seconds, while Emily clocked 23:06 for ninth spot in her race.

Evans posted 48:31 for 158th position in the men’s race after watching James clock 10:50 for 32nd position in the U11 boys event, and Thomas finish fourth in the U13 boys event in 12:44.

Mike Robbins secured 40th position with a time of 39:54 in the men’s race, ahead of Arthur Egan (third in the M65 age group and 178th overall in 49:55), Mike Edwards (219th in 58:17), and Neil Edwards (226th in 72:35).

Gillian Csizmadia completed the women’s race in 96th position with a time of 29:44.

Sophie Paxton clocked 9:31 for eighth spot in the U11 girls race, while Robyn Williams was sixth with 8:51 in the U13 girls, and William Tomlinson posted 13:56 for 14th position in the U13 boys event.

Meanwhile, Emma Parry represented Wrexham AC in the Flintshire 10k Road Race at Mold and finished second lady with a time of 38mins 25secs, while Daniel Pedley posted 46:35.

And Neve Evans took part in the 3K fun run raising £120 in sponsorships for Nightingale House.

She completed the course in 11:15 alongside her dad, Nigel, who clocked 11:22.

n A noted Finnish javelin coach will attend a coaching seminar (sprints, discus, javelin) funded by West Wales, on November 20.

n Fixtures this weekend include the Ceiriog Canter Hill Race at Glyn Ceiriog, on Saturday (2pm); the opening round of the Borders Road Running League at Prestatyn, on Sunday (11am); and the Cardiff Half Marathon, incorporating the Welsh Championships, on Sunday (9am).

Forthcoming fixtures include the North Wales Cross Country League at Llandudno, on Saturday, October 22.
