HOSPITAL officials carrying out a review of maternity services in North Wales will recommend that changes be made to the way midwifery services are delivered this week.

The maternity and childcare review board will present a report at the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board meeting tomorow (November 24) indicating that changes are needed to the service.

The report states that there is a “clear need for a change in the way that out existing services are delivered”, and targets a number of key issues for improvement.

Radical savings are also required by the department, which overspent by 10 per cent for the 2010-11 period, as the Health Board look to make savings of just over six percent to break even in 2011-12.

The Health Board will now look into the recommendations of the report, which also indicates that further investigations are required to develop the proposed changes to maternity services in North Wales, one of which includes the removal of obstetric-led services from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
