A TOWN eyesore and former pub is set to be transformed into new office space creating up to 27 jobs.

The Grade II listed Bee and Station Hotel, Bodfor Street, Rhyl, is set to benefit from a £1.3m development boost courtesy of Denbighshire County Council.

The authority is set to revitalise the former public house making it into new office accommodation able to house three medium sized businesses and three start-up firms.

A contractor is due to be appointed from this January and work is expected to be completed by 2013.

For 10 years the Bee and Station Hotel, Bodfor Street, Rhyl, has lain derelict attracting numerous complaints from residents and visitors to the town who are confronted with the building on arrival at the town’s railway station.

“It’s fantastic news that work is finally due to get underway on this prominent Rhyl landmark,” said Chris Ruane MP for Vale of Clwyd.

“Both myself and Councillor Joan Butterfield have continually raised this issue of the building which could provide a wonderful community resource in a prime area of Rhyl and I look forward to it being brought back into use.”

Cllr Butterfield added that this was another sign of the regeneration of the town following the demolition of buildings on Brighton Road and the Former ‘Stolen Goods’ shop on Abbey Street.

“There are many excellent schemes underway in Rhyl at the moment and bringing this building - which is in the prime location of the bus station and railway station - back into use is long overdue.”
