THE company behind failed plans to build two wind turbines in Colwyn Bay is set to submit a new application.

Richard Rees, who runs Bryn Y Gwynt , wanted to put up two 32 metre turbines at Glyn Farm, off Glyn Avenue, but Conwy Council planners turned down the application amid protests from local residents.

Mr Rees, 23, whose family own a farm in Abergele, said he would submit a revised proposal for a single wind turbine at the site early at the end of January.

He said: “I hope it shows we’re trying to reach a compromise. It will be lower on the horizon than the original proposals and more out of the direct view of the properties.”

The new proposal is for a single 51 metre turbine that would generate close to 840,000kwh of electricity a year.

Although taller, the tower on which the turbine stands would be smaller and sited further from houses allowing it to sit seven metres lower on the horizon.

Mr Rees is keen to win local support for the plans, which he believes can help sustain a future for his farming family.

He has already met representatives from Colywn Bay Town Council and is planning to hold talks with residents before submitting his plans.

Mr Rees said: “Farms are at the centre of the rural community and in order for everyone else to do well we all need to help each other.

“I have an office in Colwyn Bay and I look out to sea to the wind turbines, which are all owned by international companies. This is on a different scale and is a local development.”
