Neil Young revealed he is close to securing a deal for a Conference Premier midfielder and the club has also received offers for striker Jamie Rainford.
The Chester boss was frustrated to see his side held 1-1 by Nantwich at home yesterday in the Blues’ first fixtures of the New Year.
Midfielder Antoni Sarcevic bagged Chester’s equaliser just two minutes after Mike Lennon had broken the deadlock for the Cheshire visitors.
But Young is now keen to bolster his ranks ahead of a busy schedule which features a league game at Rushall on Saturday, followed by a trip to Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy, and then a home clash against promotion hopefuls Hednesford.
Young said: “Jamie Rainford is currently finishing paperwork to sign for the club after his loan spell at Halifax, but we have had two or three offers for him.
“We are currently waiting for official offers to be sent to us, and if the club are happy that the offers meet the player’s valuation then Jamie will be given permission to speak.
“At this minute he a Chester player and I expect him at training on Thursday. I think it was evident against Nantwich that we need more bodies at the club.
“Wes Baynes is out with a groin problem, Matty McGinn is out with a thigh problem and Iain Howard was out through suspension.
“Wes and Michael Powell are now facing suspensions so we are hoping to bring in a loan player or possibly somebody on a permanent deal before Saturday.
“A lad who is a midfielder in the Conference is hopefully going to play for us, but I wouldn’t like to say too much yet because he has a few bits and bobs to sort out with his current club.
“I think he will be a good signing for us because he is fairly young with football league experience.”
Reflecting on the disappointment of yesterday’s draw, Young said: “We did tire in a few positions towards the end because a few players haven’t played for a while. But I think we just basically ran out of bodies on the bench in the end.
“We bossed the game for 90 per cent of the time, but we have to put the ball in the net and we didn’t manage to do that.
“We are speaking to a number of clubs regarding players. One has agreed, and then we will look at our other options in defence and up front.
“A lot will depend on what happens with Jamie Rainford, but we are looking to strengthen over the next two or three weeks.”
