A pedestrian was killed on the M56 near Hapsford.

A PEDESTRIAN was killed on New Year’s Eve when he was involved in a two-vehicle crash on a busy section of the M56.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place on the motorway near Hapsford at about 7.15pm on Saturday, December 31.

The pedestrian, a man from the Ukraine, suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a vehicle during the crash, which involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a Land-Rrover.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police closed junctions 14 and 15, near Ellesmere Port, for about three hours to allow an examination of the scene to take place.

An Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed they took a second adult to the Countess of Chester Hospital for minor injuries.

A police spokesman said: “Cheshire Police are now liaising with the Ukranian authorities to allow formal identification of the deceased to take place.

“No arrests were made following the incident. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 660 of December 31.”
