LEVI MACKIN is planning to play his part in another Chester success story at Ebbsfleet United this weekend.
The Chester-born midfielder scored a stoppage time goal as a late substitute for the Blues on his debut in last Saturday’s 4-0 league win at Rushall Olympic.
And the experienced 25-year-old is determined to keep his club’s money-spinning run in the FA Trophy alive with a second round victory at Conference Premier hosts Ebbsfleet on Saturday to earn a place in the last 16 of the competition.
“I feel we’ve got nothing to lose at Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy.
“It will be a good break from our focus on the league and there’s no reason why we can’t go down there and give them a good game.
“I’ve played against Ebbsfleet a number of times over the years and they are a steady Conference Premier side. But there’s no reason why we can’t go there and get a result.
“My debut couldn’t have been any better after coming on for the last 15 minutes and managing to get a chance on goal and taking it. I was pretty pleased to be honest.
“I sidefooted my goal at Rushall just to make sure I got it on target.
“It’s always nice to just get on the pitch and show what I can do. I was eager to get on against Rushall and I thought I took my chance well.”
Mackin, who started his playing career at Chester City before joining neighbours Wrexham as a 15-year-old, has joined the Blues until the end of the season.
He added: “I’ve signed for Chester until the end of the season which gives the gaffer a chance to look at me and make a decision and then we’ll basically take it from there.
“I started playing football at Chester as a young lad before going to other clubs, but it’s good to be back.
“It’s good to see Chester doing so well and getting things right now behind the scenes.
“But what is being achieved is not just for now, it’s all about the future. So it’s good to see and it’s good to be a part of it all.
“I’m delighted that everything is being done right behind the scenes.
“There were even problems at Chester before I left the club as a 14-year-old, and those problems did effect the football. But it’s good to see things looking far brighter at the moment.
“Chester is a club that is now heading in the right direction and it’s a pleasure to be involved with the club on the pitch.”
Mackin believes he can benefit from the fact that he knows a number of players who are currently at his home town club.
He said: “I know a lot of the current Chester players because I’ve played alongside Wes Baynes and Christian Smith, and I’ve known John Danby and Ashley Williams for a number of years.
“It’s a lot easier for me to settle back at the club when I see so many familiar faces around the place.”
