DETECTIVES have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a raider smashed his way into a Chester bank.
The robbery happened when a man stormed into Lloyds TSB Bank in Christleton Road.
The man, whose face was covered with a black cloth, smashed a pane of glass at the cashier’s counter with a rock, before going behind the counter and stealing money.
He then fled on foot towards the Chapel Lane/Cherry Grove Lane and Filkins Lane area. No-one was injured as a result of the incident, although staff were said to have been left shaken by the incident.
The raid happened at about 3.30pm on Friday, December 30.
The suspect is described as a white man, 6ft tall, of medium build and was dressed in a dark green waterproof hooded jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.
A shop worker on Christleton Road earlier told the Leader they had been serving a customer at the time when “the next thing I knew there were police everywhere”.
Det Cons Andy Collinson, said: “The rock used to smash the window was covered in dirt and was sandstone in appearance – we believe this may have been taken from a nearby wall or rockery.
“I would ask local residents to think back to that afternoon and whether they remember anyone matching the description of the suspect in the area, similarly any local residents who may have had their garden wall or rockery disturbed to contact Cheshire Police."
Police are keen to speak to anyone who may recognise the man captured on CCTV, or to anyone who may be able to assist the investigation in any way, to contact Det Cons Collinson at Chester CID on 101 quoting incident 554 of December 30.
Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
