A BUSINESSMAN is furious over constant road works on the A494.
The trunk road between Ruthin and Mold has had various re-surfacing needed after re-occurring pot holes.
“By the time they’ve got to the top of the road, the bottom needs to be done again,” said Huw Williams from Llanbedr.
“It affects our business and commuters going to work, it is upsetting the residents in the village.”
A road traffic order was issued in September 2011, which stated: “The Welsh ministers, being the traffic authority for the relevant length of the A494 are satisfied that traffic in a specified length of the trunk road should be restricted and prohibited by reason of works proposed to be executed thereon”.
The order is called The A494 Trunk Road (Ruthin, Denbighshire) Order 2011 and it came into effect in October 2011, but the maximum duration for the order is six months.
“Essential highway maintenance work needs to be carried out between Ruthin and Mold at the northern end of Ruthin between the 30mph sign and Breic roundabout,” said a Welsh Government spokesman.
"The work includes the resurfacing of the carriageway, modification of side road junctions to incorporate pedestrian crossing facilities and the improvements to road markings.
"In order to minimize the inconvenience to the travelling public by completing the work as soon as possible, the contractor will be working for seven days per week, whilst avoiding the morning and afternoon peak traffic flow periods during school term time,” added the spokesman.
“Why do they spend all this money when they have to go back and do it again, millions have been spent on it and more work is due to start in the next few months,” said Mr Williams.
“It is clearly not being done properly.”
More work will start on the A494 on February 6, for highway safety reasons and to strengthen the deteriorating carriageway surface.
