BLUES boss Neil Young faces a busy week ahead in his full time job at Chester.
Young marked his 101st game at the helm by pointing the club one point clear at the top of the Conference North league table at the weekend with a fine 4-1 victory at Histon.
“It’s a big week for the football club because I've now started a full time role, we’ve got an AGM on Thursday, and we're top of the league,” Young said.
“That just shows everyone how far we have come in such a short space of time, but long may that continue.
“Pat Cluskey (chief executive) has told me I have a meeting today at 2pm and then a board meeting, so it could be a long day ahead.
“The football side of the club won’t change, but being full time will give me more chance to prepare training and watch other teams.
“My main job is to work on the infra-structure of the football club and that's what I'll aim to do.”
Young revealed that one of his first responsbilities is to help balance Chester’s books following the arrival of striker Ben Mills signing a permanent deal at the club.
Mills, 23, bagged nine goals in seven goals during his loan spell at Chester from Macclesfield earlier this season, and he was introduced as a second half substitute in Saturday’s league victory at Histon.
Young said: “I have got to move a few players out. One or two players will be leaving the club or will be going out on loan in the not too distant future.
“We don’t want to be working with too many players because we have a budget to work to, so over the next two or three weeks I’d expect one or two players to leave either permanently or on loan to reduce the numbers for our budget and player-wise.
“The Ben Mills deal came a little bit out of the blue, but the club wanted to do that and that’s why I concluded a deal with Macclesfield. But now we have got to balance the books accordingly.
“Ben is a good player. He did well for us during his loan spell earlier this season, but he just comes into the squad like everyone else and we musn’t devalue the players who have been with us since Ben left after the Boston match.
“I am hoping that Ben can do well alongside the rest of the lads and help us win the league title.”
Young, who is now focusing his sights on Wednesday’s home league match against Corby Town at the Exacta Stadium (7.45pm kick-off), underlined the importance of utilising his squad players.
He said: “It’s key now, particularly with the amount of games that we've got in December, that we have options from the bench.
“Wes Baynes and Antoni Sarcevic are both suspended for Wednesday night’s game, and Dominic Collins is also suspended in a few weeks time.
“I took Nathan Jarman off as a precaution on Saturday because if he had got booked he would have missed the Brackley game, so we have to use the squad the best way we possibly can.
“We have got a couple of lads out with suspensions for Wednesday’s home match against Corby, but that gives other lads an opportunity to show me what they can do.”
- Chester have signed 20-year-old Leeds United midfielder Nathan Turner on loan, and his brother, Lewis, has joined Harrogate Town from Leeds United on loan until January.
