Chester residents urged to help shape city's future

CHESTER residents are being invited to help shape the future of public services in the area.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has published its draft budget proposals for the next financial year and is asking residents to take part by sharing their views on how taxpayers’ money should be spent.

Three ‘Question Time’-style events are to take place where an audience comprised of members of the council’s citizens’ panel will be able to put questions to executive members of the council.

For the first time one of the events will be broadcast as a live webcast and there will be an opportunity for viewers to send in questions or comments via text or email.

Cllr Les Ford, executive member for resources, said: “As part of its efforts to reduce the national deficit, the Government is continuing to look to local councils to achieve savings and provide services with less funding.

“This position is unlikely to change in the near future and at the same time we expect demand for services such as care for the elderly to continue to rise so we are now looking to our residents to help us plan accordingly.

“It’s clear we cannot continue to provide all the services we currently do in the same way, which makes it vital we hear from our borough’s residents to find out what is important to them and how to target our budgets.

“We are really keen to hear what the public have to say and I would encourage people to take part. While we can’t guarantee there will be time to answer everyone’s questions on the night, we will do our best to address as many of the issues that people raise as possible.”
