AN AMERICAN songwriter is touching down in Chester tomorrow as part of a UK tour.
Virginia’s Devon Sproule is touring the UK to promote her new album Don’t Hurry for Heaven, mainly recorded on this side of the Atlantic.
Sproule, whose music spans folk, country and jazz, is touring with her band which includes the legendary steel player, BJ Cole.
Speaking about recording in the UK, she said: “Musically, after a whole summer of festivals in the UK, my band was feeling great.
“Everything was. It wasn’t even raining that much.
It would’ve been a shame not to capture something from that time, to let that phase of our playing evaporate into the next.
So we booked this studio out in the country.”
Over the past two years Sproule’s star has been in the ascendancy both here and in the US. She has toured with Woodstock giant Richie Havens, Lambchop frontman Kurt Wagner, opened two nights at the O2 for Lucinda Williams and played all the key festival stages from Cambridge to Glastonbury.
Her appearance on Later...With Jools Holland cemented her reputation as a star in the making and she was the first American artist to feature on the cover of fROOTS magazine in a decade.
Catch Devon Sproule at Telford’s Warehouse, Tower Wharf. Tickets are £12.
