A LOVE of all things scientific landed high-flyer Laura Peyton a teaching position at a Secondary School on the Wirral.

Laura, who will graduate with a PGCE in Science at Chester Cathedral tomorrow, originally completed a sports science degree, but it was her passion for the more conventional sciences that took her on a different career path.

Having studied biology and chemistry at A Level, the 25-year-old from Flintshire returned to the subjects following her graduation, completing one-week intensive courses before enrolling on the PGCE.

And after achieving fantastic marks in both Standards and Teaching Practice and receiving glowing recommendations from the two schools at which she trained, Laura was quickly offered a post teaching science at St John Plessington Catholic College in Bebington.

She said: “I really enjoyed my PGCE course, the teaching, support and resources were great. During my Sports Science degree, I enjoyed coaching children, but it was the more conventional science that I found to be most interesting.

“I was thinking about becoming either a PE teacher or a science teacher, and in the end I decided that the science route would be better for me.

“I’m really enjoying myself now that I’m in a job. It’s challenging but it’s great. I’d also like to thank the learning support services at the University.

“I have dyslexia, which made my studies were an extra challenge, but they were a great help.”
