A TV soap star has travelled from Weatherfield to Neston to officially open a new retirement development.

A taste of Coronation Street came to Neston last Saturday when Ladson Group welcomed the actor William Roache to launch the grand opening of its latest development, Renaissance, on Hinderton Road, Neston.

William is the last remaining original cast member of the long-running soap and plays much-loved character, Ken Barlow.

More than 70 guests were treated to champagne and canapés following the official opening ceremony and the entertainment ended with a firework finale in the grounds the landmark 1930s building.

Since its opening in 1939, the site has played home to the neo-Georgian police station, scientific support unit as well as two police houses, two courts and further support buildings.

The event marked the end of a two year project which has seen the building restored and converted into 42 one and two-bedroom luxury apartments for over 55s.
