Deva Stadium stand closed over safety fears

THE NORTH stand at Chester City FC’s Deva Stadium has been closed down due to safety fears.

Cheshire West and Chester Regulatory Services have taken the step and reduced the overall capacity attendance figure at the ground.

The authority, responsible for public safety at sports stadiums, took the decision after an inspection had revealed potential faults with the crush barriers and a number of other issues affecting spectators’ safety.

The capacity of the three other stands at the ground has been reduced.

Cllr Lynn Riley, executive member, area and community, said: “Sadly it has been necessary to take this action in the interests of spectators’ safety.

No spectators will be permitted to enter the North stand until the necessary inspection, tests and potential repairs have been completed.

“We will be working closely with the club to insure that the work required is carried out as soon as possible”.

The measures will apply for Chester’s next home game on Monday against Barrow.
