A TEENAGE cancer patient is set to meet her favourite pop star thanks to the Leader.
We’ve teamed up with The Tivoli in Buckley to offer 16-year-old Hannah Jones the chance to meet X Factor 2009 runner-up Olly Murs when he appears at the Flintshire nightclub this Saturday.
Hannah, from Westminster Park, Chester, has battled back from a stroke and a brain tumour after being diagnosed with astrocytic glioma in August 2008.
Her aunt, Janice Smith, from Handbridge, contacted the Leader to see if we could arrange for the teenager to meet her heart-throb.
She said: “It would delight Hannah to meet Olly.
“It’s so devastating to see what she is going through, but the fact that she copes with it so well makes it easier for us all.
“She is just unbelievable, she is so funny and so brave and she keeps us all going. She’s an inspiration.”
The Christleton High School pupil, who has raised thousands of pounds for charity, has undergone three operations, six weeks of radiotherapy and more than 12 months of intensive chemotherapy.
After her third operation she suffered a stroke and doctors feared she may never walk again, but the teenager is determined to fight it.
Tivoli club promoter Franklin Slater said: “We would love to welcome Hannah and her family as my personal VIP guests for the Olly Murs X Factor show.
“Our friends at the Leader have mentioned that Hannah is a fan of Olly and the show and I will be making sure that she meets Olly in his own dressing room before and after he performs to make it a night to remember.”
Hannah’s most recent MRI scan showed no cancerous tissue, but the youngster must undergo regular tests to ensure the tumour has not returned.
Janice added: “At the moment she is doing really well.
“She has scans ever three months and at the last one they were really surprised that it hadn’t grown back. She is fighting it.”
Despite her illness Hannah has raised more than £60,000 for the Samantha Dixon Brain Tumour Trust and has collected more than 3,000 signatures to lobby the government into spending more money on brian tumour research.
