Fans angry at X-factor star's Flintshire show

DOZENS of disappointed X Factor fans say they feel let down after a performance in Flintshire by one of the show’s stars.

But the owners of the Flintshire venue where Olly Murs appeared have hit back, saying customers should have got there earlier.

Fans who paid £15 a ticket for X Factor 2009 runner-up Olly’s exclusive gig at The Tivoli in Buckley were promised the singer’s first booking since the show ended, but some claim they were left out in the cold by the club management.

Buckley resident Robyn Antrobus, 18, who was at the gig, said: “It was absolutely packed in the club.

“It was so hot that one of my friends almost passed out.

“She went outside to get some fresh air and then the doormen wouldn’t let her back in.”

Clubgoer Scott Gallagher told the Leader: “What an absolute waste of time and money.

“The Tivoli was so packed that no-one could move. The doors opened at 6pm and Olly came on at 8.30pm, only to sing four songs with a terrible sound system, then left the stage at 8.50pm.”

The club’s website page on social networking site Facebook has been bombarded with complaints from angry fans.

One person said: “Me and my friends bought VIP tickets but didn’t even get on the same floor as Olly.

“It was a joke and I am very disappointed.”

Another said: “I’ve been going to The Tiv for 15 years and seen plenty of bands there and never ever seen such a shambles as you had last night.

“What were you thinking having under-18s in there with the adults? The poor kids were terrified and couldn’t see a thing.

“You seriously need to rethink the way you do things.”

A spokesman for the club responded on the Facebook page by saying: “It was very busy, but as you know, the police were on the front door and we were under the limit of customers allowed into the Tiv.

“In standing concerts, people do tend to want to try and get close to the act. Sorry for those at the back.

“When the club eventually gets a ‘refurb’, we are trying to alter the shape a touch so that everyone inside has a perfect view of the stage.”

Club promotions manager Franklin Slater told the Leader: “If you want to get the best possible view at a concert, you have to get there early.

“People turned up at 8pm when Olly was on stage at 8.30pm. People who paid extra for a VIP ticket had their own bar which was upstairs.

“They could meet and greet Olly at their own will. It was a fantastic turnout and Olly really enjoyed himself.”

Seriously, they paid for him to sing just 4 songs? That is terrible. Much better to have paid extra to go to one of the X-factor shows at the MEN and have a superior venue.

Count yoursleves lucky - he could have murdered a lot more than just four songs.

No offence, but what do you expect when you go to a gig? Everybody to have their own little space and a perfect view? People just need to stop complaining. I went to the gig and was sensible enough to stand away from the stage where people were obviously trying to cram themselves in to. The person who fainted was near the very front away from the doors so it was bound to be hot. He gave a good performance even if it was just 4 songs. Do you expect a full concert for £15 in Buckley?

I think it must be an X-Factor thing. When Lucie Jones was in Chicago Rock last month, doors opened at 7, she came into the building at 12:15, came on the stage at 12:30 sang 3 songs and that was that!

I've paid just £5 more to see Thirty seconds to Mars at the MEN and will get a full concert with support act etc. So I do think £15 for an artist that hasn't even got an album to his name yet ,that there should have been more songs.

How can people expect Olly to have a vast repertoire of songs when he has been on the music scene for a few short months. Luckily though I won't be going to the Tivoli again as they have shown poor judgement in the type of people they want to attract there. It was the fans that ruined the night. Not the venue.

fans caused extra stress and problems on the night with pushing and unable to speak to staff in a humain manner. I actually felt sorry for the staff at the tiv on saturday as fans made the situation worse. ok maybe too many people were sold tickets for the gig to be comfortable but the owners wernt breaking the law and it was still a very good night. very well policed aswell by door staff and the local police. Saturday will not put me off attending a gig at the tiv again

I went along with 6 friends and we all had VIP tickets Due to the chaos when Ollie left the stage we were ushered up to the private bar to meet him & have a photo. After 10 mins we were sent back down the stairs where my friends and I got seperated to have our photos taken and did so. We still haven't got the photos as no-one on the night could tell us how or when we went about collecting them and I am unable to get an answer from the Tiv as we have been trying everyday since.

I've read numerous comments regarding health and safety on the night and concerns raised over fire capacity which the club spokesman states were not breached. I wonder if the management are aware of how capacity is calculated and how to carry out a fire risk assessment? I have little doubt the overall stated club capacity wasn't breached and tickets were sold to match that number,

however they failed to take into account the capacity covers all available areas such as the two upper levels, one of which was closed reducing capacity, first floor VIP only, again reducing the overall capacity and then by using 1/3 of the main room as the stage it was reduced further still, so whilst they appeared to be within the law, to themselves and to police officers present, the overall capacity was greatly reduced, some would say dangerously so.
