A TEENAGE army cadet has pledged to do all he can to help those who have been struck in the Haiti Earthquake disaster.

Connor Butler, 15, who attends Blacon High School, said that he wishes that he could travel to the devastated Caribbean Island to help those caught up in the aftermath of the earthquake.

He said: “It is a terrible and tragic disaster and I’m so glad that we don’t have earthquakes like that in this country.”

Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake shortly before 5pm local time on Tuesday, January 12, toppling hundreds of buildings in Port-au-Prince.

The quake which measured 7.0 on the Richter scale has killed thousands and left many homeless.

Connor, who is part of the Castle Cadets in Chester, said that the army have done a great job in helping the people of Haiti and he wants to play his part to help those affected.

Connor, who has dreams of becoming a soldier when he signs up to the British Army after he finishes school this summer, has decided to wear his full regalia - from his buffed boots to his beret - as part of Blacon High School’s Haiti fundraising non-uniform day tomorrow. Each student who attends school on Thursday will donate £1, but Connor has already raised more than £100 towards the appeal through his army themed fancy dress idea.

“Raising money is important to help those communities affected to get back to a normal life,” added Connor.
