FIREFIGHTERS have issued a stark warning to arsonists in Ellesmere Port who have continued to light nuisance fires despite a campaign.

Festival Park, off Overpool Road, in Ellesmere Port, had been plagued with small rubbish and bins fires for a number of months, before a crackdown and safety campaign was launched by fire crews in the area.

Despite warnings and fire safety education being carried out at homes in the surrounding area, Ellesmere Port firefighters were called to a small bin fire on Festival Park last week.

Green watch manager John Boswell said the fire could have a very negative effect on the community.

He said: “We have worked hard to try and drive down arson in the area and there have been one or two events recently that have considerably damaged the work that we have done.

“Any minor fires have a negative effect on the work we have done and it seems like it has been thrown back in our faces.

“We have spent a lot of time and resources on educating people and although incidents may have waned a little, these nuisance fires waste our time and drain our resources that could be spent elsewhere more effectively.

“By lighting these fires people are putting other lives at risk.”
