A CHESTER health expert has been chosen by a national teenage magazine to help a vulnerable 15-year-old girl, and millions of girls like her, to feel more confident about their bodies.
Leading Chester complementary health expert, Claire Hegarty, has been chosen by national glossy magazine ‘Bliss’, to give advice as part of a shocking article about body image.
Claire, who works at the Chester Clinic, in Upton, will give advice to a 15-year-old girl, from London who was a size 10, but rated herself a 3/10 when it came to looks and general appearance.
Bliss magazine asked Claire, 33, to be part of their feature, which they hope will change young girls’ minds, and encourage young girls that they should have confidence within themselves.
Claire, who is a master hypnotherapist, reiki and body language expert, said: “Young girls are seeing these models on the television and in magazines and feel that this is the normal size and they must look like them, which leads to young girls going without food and hating themselves for the way they look instead of celebrating the way they look. Millions of young girls around the country are being affected by size zero models and feel they should have the same weight and waistline as them, which can cause young girls to suffer from depression become anorexic.”
Bliss magazine asked Romy, 15, from London, to keep a dairy for a few days to find out what she secretly thinks about herself and her looks.
Bliss and Claire said they were both shocked at the end result of the diary, which included comment such as, “I don’t like what I see - on days like this, I’m much quieter than usual”.
Claire, who also presents her own radio show giving out advice, added: “We’re very tough on ourselves. But how we feel and how we behave is linked. When we’re feeling good, we think differently about how we look. So by changing the negative things we say to ourselves every day, we could drastically improve the way we feel about the way we look.”
