A SHOPOWNER from Ellesmere Port, has been handed a certificate of merit as part of Parliamentary competition.
David Maddock, who runs Stanney News, in Stanney, was put forward by MP Andrew Miller, to represent Ellesmere Port and Neston as part of a search to find the best small shop in the country.
The all party parliamentary small shops group invited Members of Parliament to nominate a shop in their constituency to be considered in the group’s competition and at a reception in Parliament, on Wednesday, March 10, ‘Stanney News’ received a certificate of merit.
Mr Miller said: “Whilst there can be no doubt that supermarkets, through their might in terms of purchasing power, can often offer goods at a lower price than a small shop, they find it difficult to compete in terms of quality and the very personal service that small shops are able to provide for their customers.
“Small shops are still vital to our economy and David Maddock, (who runs Stanney News) certainly deserves praise for his hard work getting this small shop up and running once again.”
