POLICE are turning up the heat on their patrols in a bid to help city residents stay safe this summer.
Residents in Chester who leave their homes and cars insecure will be getting a visit from their local Neighbourhood Policing team next week.
Members of the Chester Inner Neighbourhood Policing Team will be in the college Ward area of the city on Wednesday advising residents about security as the weather hots up.
PCSO Robbie Large said: “Traditionally at this time of year we tend to see an increase in sneak in burglaries, where thieves get into homes through unlocked doors and windows, sometimes while the occupant is in the garden or another room.
“They steal small, expensive, easily portable items such as laptops, handbags, mobile phones and cash.
“The same goes for cars left insecure with valuables on show.”
Members of the team will be patrolling the streets, delivering leaflets on crime prevention and checking homes and cars.
PCSO Large said: “We will be visiting any residents who have left their cars or homes insecure, just to remind them that a thief could have easily got there before us. We just want to remind people to keep windows and doors locked when they are out in the garden or in another room.”
