RESIDENTS in parts of West Cheshire are being offered special screws to stop the theft of number plates.

The anti-theft screws are being offered to motorists at St Clare’s School car park, Lache Park, on Tuesday, June 1, at 11.30am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm - 3.30pm.

Dave Owens, West Cheshire’s crime reduction advisor, said: “We have seen number plates being stolen in recent weeks across the area. These number plates are being fitted to other cars which are then used to commit further crime.”

During the awareness event, Cheshire Constabulary officers and staff and Lache’s Community Wardens will be offering free number plate security screws, bike engraving, ultra violet pens and SmartWater.

Clare Roberts and Christian Griffiths, students on placement with Cheshire Constabulary from the University of Chester, have been working with Cheshire Constabulary’s Crime Reduction Advisor, Dave Owens, to raise the awareness of number plate thefts.

John Hickie, supervisor of Cheshire West and Chester’s Lache wardens, said: “The security screws we will be giving away can save motorists a lot of inconvenience. If your car’s number plates are stolen then the vehicle cannot be used on the road until replaced.”
