A Teacher will be appearing on TV next week receiving a “life-changing” makeover from fashion guru Gok Wan.

Melanie Williams, a teacher at Borras Park Infants School, Wrexham said she applied for the show after colleagues said she needed some fashion advice.

“The girls put my name forward because I was always wearing green combat trousers and that kind of thing,” said Melanie, mother to Arwen, four and Manon, two and a half.

“They called me Forrest Gump and Worzel Gummidge.”

After sending off an application form and a DVD, Michelle, 37, was soon taken under the wing of Gok and was chosen to take part in Channel 4 show Gok’s Fashion Fix.

Speaking about how she felt before the makeover process, Melanie, of Castle Street, Ponciau, Wrexham, with husband Shaun, 40, said: “My self-esteem had gone.

“Since having the two children, I had lost interest in myself and my body shape had changed.”

Gok soon swept into action and Melanie was given a huge array of clothes, which she had to try on blindfolded.

This was for the fashion team to see what looked good on Melanie without spoiling the surprise of her seeing the results of the makeover at the end.

After filming in London and Wrexham the final reveal day came and Melanie was given the first chance to see how she looked.

Her hair and make-up were done at a salon in Chester and she went to the Memorial Hall in Wrexham to show her friends and family her new look.

Melanie was also given a “capsule wardrobe” with clothes picked by Gok that she could mix and match.

“The ‘reveal’ was emotional really,” she said.

“I’m naturally blonde and had long hair so it was a big change to go brunette. I was happy and shocked.”

Melanie said her husband and children loved her new look but preferred her hair blonde.

“The whole thing was really exciting and overwhelming and my self-esteem has soared,” she said. “It was life-changing, the clothes were beautiful.

“It’s very funny being with somebody who is famous – but he made me feel relaxed. He was very funny and knowledgeable.”

The show will be aired on Channel 4 on Tuesday, June 8.

If they make comments like that about colleagues..... what are they saying about the Kids ? .... every parent knows that you can send a child to school looking dead smart.... only for them to return for all the world looking as if they spent the day on work experience on a building site

That's why most of my friends are male. I hate bitchy women and the gossip culture that exists within my own sex.

Does make you think about the staff in this school but there again the area has always tried to punch above its weight ,snobby residents produce snobby school staff ,the same thing was apparent when I spent a short time in Marford. The kids in the area were awful but the parents/school would not have it, (we had vandalism to our property by children at the school)
