MORE than 500 fans turned out to celebrate a key anniversary of Chester Football Club while watching the England team play in the World Cup.
Crowds packed into the Pavilion Suite at Chester Racecourse over the weekend, where they enjoyed a meal to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the club before watching England battle it out with the USA.
The club’s chief executive, Steve Ashton, said: “It’s great that we have our history and future together in the same room with hundreds of fans and ex-players. It’s a clear message that Chester are back.
“We thank everyone for their kind support.”
Former players such as Milton Graham, Grenville Millington, Paul Carden, Stuart Rimmer, Colin Woodthorpe, and various others attended the event, as well as former chairman Ray Crofts.
Mr Crofts had got together with the players who featured in Harry McNally’s team of the 1980s to receive the “The Harry McNally Trophy”, which will become the Player of the Year trophy from next season.
Also in attendance were current manager Neil Young, first team coach Gary Powell, as well as Greg Stones and Mark Connolly from the playing staff.
Following the game, comedian Denny Waters entertained the audience before an auction took place, raising more than £10,000.
The auction saw many items going for considerable amounts, including Gary Talbot’s “Famous Five” framed picture, which sold for more than £1,000.
