PRINCE Charles paid a visit to Anglesey’s Plas Newydd on Tuesday to take a look at efforts to re-introduce red squirrels to nearby woodland.
Six squirrels were brought to the stately home in October 2008, which have since bred successfully and made their home on the estate.
The Prince met local dignitaries and national trust figures at the home, before being taken on a tour of the grounds where the rare squirrels have been introduced.
Sadly, Prince Charles was unable to spot any of the reds, but he did impress staff with his knowledge and interest in the subject.
Plas Newydd property manager Jane Richardson said: “There were so many people and photographers there that I suspect the squirrels knew we were coming.
“He said that he has red squirrels at his estate, and he was sharing tips with us on how he looks after them; we were all very impressed with the interest he took."
Staff at the stately home were also privileged to have the Duchess of Cornwall accompany the Prince of Wales on his visit.
“Luckily, the Duchess of Cornwall also came; we were told she might not be able to make it, but fortunately she came, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the Royal experience.”
The Duchess of Cornwall enjoyed a display of the works of Rex Whistler, one of her favourite artists, which is on display at the house.
Both the Prince and the Duchess then enjoyed a private lunch with Lord and Lady Anglesey, before attending a function at the house.
“He took the time to speak to everyone there, and really took an interest in them; it was really good of him.”
