THE sun shone as rafters battled it out for a slice of the action as the annual Chester Rotary Raft Race took place on the River Dee.
Teams took to the Dee to battle it out over the course from the Boat House Inn, downriver over the weir to the finishing line.
The theme for this year’s event was great historical events.
The Chester Rotary Club event, held in support of charity Help the Heroes, proved to even bigger and better than ever. The race is 35 years old and has raised many hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities over the years. Event spokesman Brendan Witter said: “The theme was great historical events through the ages which can have a liberal interpretation and the main beneficiary charity on this occasion was Help for Heroes which supports British soldiers injured in conflict together with other local charities.
“Prizes were awarded for the first crew over the line but also for the fastest men’s, ladies and pub rafts as well as a prize for the best representation of the historical theme.”
