LLAY 240-7
DENBIGH 88
(Llay won by 152 runs)

IT was a weekend of losses as far as Denbigh were concerned.

Not only did they lose their longstanding unbeaten run for the year, but Ben Wilcox-Jones’ charges also lost their grasp on one of Division One’s two promotion places.

Pwllheli and Conwy are now the top two in the rankings after Denbigh’s surprise loss at Llay.

Batting first, Llay used up their full allocation of 52 overs to reach 240-7.

Disappointingly for the visitors, they let slip 35 extras during the innings, while no Llay batsman went on to make a half-century.

The main batting protagonists were John Lloyd (45 not out) and Damian Bryan (41).

For Denbigh, international spinner Harrison Jones was the main man with the ball, snapping up a fantastic 4-49 from his 12-over stint.

He was well backed up by Stuart Griffiths (2-35) and opening bowler Gethin Williams (1-41).

Denbigh have proved to be proficient at chasing down large 200-plus victory targets in 2010, but this mission never really got going.

There were a few decent starts in their line-up, including Gerallt Lyall (27), John Lee Rowlands (26), William Affleck (14) and Stuart Griffiths (14).

But the Llay bowlers held the upper hand as Denbigh were bowled out for just 88 in less than 24 overs.

Dave Phennah (3-22), Phil Bray (2-3), Damian Bryan (2-18) and Daniel Parry (2-45) were the chief destroyers with the ball in hand.
