MARCHWIEL WREXHAM 93
DENBIGH 94-0
(Denbigh won by 10 wickets)

PREMIER Division wannabes Denbigh now have a healthy cushion as they turn up the heat on their North Wales Cricket League Division One promotion rivals.

Ben Wilcox-Jones’ in-form leaders are now 24 points clear of third-placed Pwllheli after beating lowly Marchwiel Wrexham.

Denbigh were on top in all departments on Saturday and Marchwiel Wrexham captain Nick Husbands may well be ruing his decision to bat first.

Although they batted for five balls shy of 50 overs, the hosts failed to reach three figures.

All of the Denbigh bowlers secured at least one notch in their wickets column. Pick of the quintet were opening bowler John Lee Rowlands and Wales U-16s spinner Harrison Jones.

Rowlands’ 11.1 overs yielded a fine 3-23, while Jones took 3-26.

Denbigh’s bowlers shared 21 maidens, the bulk of them bowled by Gethin Williams (1-21) and William Affleck (1-4), with six apiece.

Alec Lewis also bowled well to bag 1-9 from his six-over stint.

While the struggling hosts batted on until the 50th over, Denbigh needed only a third of this tally to wrap up a great eighth win of the summer.

Openers Gerallt Lyall and Darren Nixon guided Denbigh to a winning 94 without loss after rattling along at 5.42 runs an over. Lyall was again the top performer with his undefeated 62, while Nixon compiled 30 not out.
