THERE were three races in the space of five days for energetic duo Glenda Davies and Des Davies!

The spell opened with the Druids fell race from Llanferres up Moel Fenlli, followed by Moel Siabod in Capel Curig and the next morning saw the Northern Boys Love Gravy 6 trail race at Glossop, Derbyshire.

With this Saturday’s Snowdon International race in her sights Prestatyn Running Club ladies’ captain Glenda Davies had morale-boosting performances in both the Moel Siabod event and last week’s Druids race, the second in the Clwydian Hills series.

In both events she finished close on the heels of the in-form Des Davies.

On Wednesday evening in the Druids race, Des led the Prestatyn contingent home, followed by Glenda who was third lady overall and the second L45.

The Llanferres race also marked the debuts on the fells of David Owen and Eleri Goddard, both of whom coped admirably with the tough climbs.

Prestatyn RC placings: 34, Des Davies 41.03; 45, Glenda Davies 43.27; 59, Steve Hatfield 46.20; 71, David Owen 49.44; 75, Eleri Goddard 50.43; 84, Tracy Colligan 54.31.

On Saturday the pair travelled to Capel Curig for the Moel Siabod 5.8-mile race 2400.

Des completed the course in 71 minutes and 25 seconds and Glenda was the third 0-45 in 72.12.

A trip to the Peak District proved to be a hit both from the running and social points of view for members of Prestatyn Running Club.

A total of 24 members travelled to Hadfield, near Glossop, for the Gravy 6 trail run in the Longdendale valley and it proved to be the biggest representation present from any club.

Dean Longley led the contingent home in 12th place overall but his pleasure at his performance was marred when he realised that all finishers did not receive a sample of the famous gravy!

The only prize winner from the club was 16-year-old Amie Bagnall who was first junior lady home, but there were also high age-group placings for Des Davies (second M50), Gareth Hughes (third M60), Phil Jones (third M65) and Glenda Davies (third FV45).

Every member had a decent run over what was a very attractive course.

The whole occasion was so enjoyable that the trip looks likely to be repeated next year.

Seven local runners made the trip, each achieving individual goals.

Des led the locals back in 37.47 with club chairman Arwel Jones comfortably breaking the 40-minute barrier in 39.39.

David A Jones outsprinted Glenda by four seconds over the finishing line in 42.32, whilst Brenda Tiedtke looked strong completing the distance in 43.43.

The extra training paid off for Sharon Hulett as she finished in 50.29 and Eleri Jones is well on track on her return after a long lay-off, completing the course in 51.12.
