ASPIRING chefs went head-to-head at a city hotel this week in a bid to secure places on a top training scheme.

A new apprentice programme officially launched at the Abode Hotel Chester on Monday, August 2, complete with an X-Factor style judging panel hosted by Michael Caines.

Abode Hotel spokesman Laura Morgan said this year they had decided to launch the program to “coincide with their new property at HQ in Chester”.

The event included games and a quick-fire question round, in which candidates were tested for their knowledge and wit regarding the food industry.

The programme, which is targeted towards anyone who is interested in working in the catering industry, will see successful candidates employed at the hotel for the next two years in order to learn the trade.

There are also opportunities to experience various areas of food and beverage service and preparation, while receiving coaching and support by senior members of the team, including Michael Caines himself.

All apprentices will also be completing the NVQ (levels 2 and 3) in Food Preparation or Food Service.
