FUN loving women are being urged to take part in a runaway bride themed run in memory of a breast cancer victim.
Victoria Gildea, 30, of Tegid Way, Saltney is hosting a the event in aid of a charity set up in her sister-in-law's name on Sunday, 12 September.
The Angela Gildea Memorial Fund was created following Anglea’s five-month battle with the disease.
Angela discovered a lump while she was in Canada on a trip with the Air Training Corps, while being strapped into a ride at a theme park in August 2001.
After being inspected by the doctor, the Ship Inn pub manager was told the devastating news that she had terminal cancer.
At just 32, Angela, who also worked at the former Safeways store in Upton and at Upton High School faced a battle with the disease, which sadly ended on January 15, 2002.
Her family have kept Anglea’s kind-hearted fun loving spirit alive by hosting a number of themed events for the breast cancer unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital where she was treated.
Sister-in-law Victoria said: “I never actually met Angela, I met and married her brother Simon after she died, but seeing pictures and watching videos of her showed me the kind of funny, kind and light hearted person that she was.
“My three-year-old daughter Evie looks very much like her and my husband says she is very much like her in personality too.”
In a effort to keep Angela’s memory alive, Victoria has organised a ‘runaway bride’ themed charity run event at Chester Racecourse to raise fund for the cause.
Victoria said: “Everyone has an old bridesmaid dress or a wedding dress in the back of the cupboard and we are encouraging people to get dressed up and take part in their outfits. It is a bit of fun to raise as much money as possible for the cause and to raise the profile of breast cancer awareness.”
