People caught up in the flooding in Pakistan desperately need aid and other help.

STAFF at a financial firm have joined a campaign to raise money to help millions of flood victims in Pakistan.

Principality Building Society, which has a branch in Bridge Street, Chester, has joined Y Care International to try to provide vital supplies for those affected by the ongoing crisis.

Residents across Cheshire West and Chester are being urged to visit Principality branches in the area to donate money towards the appeal.

Principality Building Society spokesman Graeme Yorston said: “Through Y Care International we can ensure that funds reach the people who need it as quickly as possible.

“The people in the region responded to the Haiti Appeal in January, generously donating over £4,500.

“Through Y Care International we can ensure that funds reach the people who need it as quickly as possible.”

It is now estimated more than 13 million people have been affected and more than 1,000 people have died as a result of the worst floods in recent history.

Communities across five provinces of the country have been destroyed, causing around one million people to lose their homes and it is estimated that some 1.8 million need food.

In addition, the floods have wiped out significant crops across the country, making a food crisis seem imminent. And with more rain and flooding forecasted over the coming weeks, the risk of water-borne diseases spreading remains high.

Money raised through the appeal will be used to deliver shelter, clean drinking water and food supplies.

Donations to the Pakistan Emergency Appeal can be made over the counter at any of Principality’s 51 branches.
