WREXHAM Council has praised students across the borough for their "excellent" A-level performance.

Results show an overall pass rate of 99.1 per cent, which is two per cent higher than the all-Wales figure of 97.1 per cent.

It is also two per cent igher than last year.

Of the total number of results in Wrexham 71.6 per cent are A* - C grades.

This is a five per cent improvement on 2009, with 17.4 per cent graded at A* or A.

The A* grade has been awarded for the first time this summer at A-level.

The pass rate for the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma qualification, taken by almost half this year’s sixth form leavers, is 98.4 per cent.

These results are even higher than last year’s exceptionally good performance and well above the Welsh figure of 81 per cent.

Students who achieved the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification were successful in both their A-level subjects and the full range of key skills qualifications.

In Wrexham 97.1 per cent of sixth-formers also achieved the Level 3 threshold.

This is 2.9 per cent higher than last year’s validated figure.

The Level 3 threshold performance measure takes into account all qualifications, including A and AS Level, vocational and key skills qualifications.

John Davies, the council's chief learning and achievement officer, said: "These are excellent results.

"They reflect the hard work and commitment of our young people, their families and teachers.

"Schools can be proud of their achievements.

"I wish all our students well as they move on to higher education, training or employment."

Its a tribute to these young people that they have achieved such good results... and it totally down to themselves given the disarray that the primary schools are in under the goverance of WCBC's present LEA

Wrexhams LEA jumping on the bandwaggon again.... do nothing and claim all the credit, I have never met such a bunch of dishonest numpties in my life...they are a shame on the whole country... good on the kids for doing well regardless of LEA inteferance.

Tony Cahill and Peter Clutton taking shit again I see, these two really need to get a life and a job they have too much time on their hands.

Mr Gethin..... the name says it all ...typical backward Welsh nationlalist..... nothing is ever wrong when looked at through the rose tinted glasses that see Wrexham as nirvana.... please explain why the LEA took steps to prevent an investigation of child abuse at a Wrexham School or if that is beyond your linguistic ability then watch this space

Always had you down as a Fenian Tony boy, tell us more about this cover up. Wrexham Council are run by Lib Dems, isn't that your party or you changed again. Keep taking the tablets Tony.

And by the way its Mr ap Gethin; you wouldn't call Mr O'Malley, Mr Malley now would you?

  7. Posted by: a cahill at 20:22 on 19 August 2010 Report

Yeah Mr Gethin..... sounding evermore like liberty1 in your new Welsh Clobber..... as I your lingistic ability may not be up to understanding anything that doesn't contain rude words..... so watch this space.... would also like to remind you that it is Plaid in Coalition with Labour in Cardiff and the LibDems in Wrexham who wholeheartedly support the Council policy and Officers

Come on Tony, put up or shut up, have you got anything or is it just your usual whingeing.

  9. Posted by: liberty1 at 16:30 on 20 August 2010 Report

Mr Cahill ,as you have mentioned my noms de plome in one of your comments I would like to know why you have not contacted the Police if you have evidence or just suspicion of child abuse? This is not a subject to be dealt with lightly , this is the type of throw away line which starts rumours and witchhunts ,yes ,put up or shut up.

Hi Rhys.... the matter has been reported to the Police who decided that they didn't have to interview the victim citing that they had had enough info to go on with, the LEA, Social Servicesand Estyn also but Social Services said that they couldn't go Against the LEA.... Suffice to say that this is not imaginary and is an ongoing issue that will have to dealt with by autorities outside of Wrexham

  11. Posted by: liberty1 at 20:36 on 20 August 2010 Report

Cahill, for a start my name is not Rhys ,which shows you make things up as you go along, if this matter has been reported to the Police please supply the crime report number.

  12. Posted by: yachydda at 20:56 on 20 August 2010 Report

Rhys: As having had first hand experience and several meetings with Mr Edwards and senior LEA managers who recognised there were serious issues with the LEA.... they have not changed... teachers bullied as well as kids deprived of there rights... I speak the truth, if you cannot handle that.. thats your problem... by the way.. your attemp to join my website with a proxy IP failed... try your real one next time please.

  13. Posted by: liberty1 at 10:20 on 21 August 2010 Report

Yuck,To paraphrase a song " Who the **** is Rhys" and why would they want to join your website when the Disney channel/Cbeebies is available ,also you seem to be taking up more time of council officials than Klaus,or are you the same person? You have the same deluded sense that you are important.put up or shut up, as usual you wont put up or shut up.

  14. Posted by: a cahill at 10:58 on 21 August 2010 Report

R.A.G...or Liberty.... given that we have only 20/500 characters to get a point in comment across it is quite normal to have user names shortened... mine has been reduced to AC at times....and tony when it is actually Anthony...as far as giving you anymore info on this matter it seems that the little you have has caused you to react in an un reasonable fashion...cont

  15. Posted by: a cahill at 11:07 on 21 August 2010 Report

The fact is that all is not well at the LEA and the much vaunted information sharing between agencies put forward by Jane Hutt at the Assembly is and has been used to protect the professionals with responsibility for the protection of Children rather than protecting the Child.. once again a great idea abused by those in authority.

  16. Posted by: Rhys ap Gethin at 11:21 on 21 August 2010 Report

Tony - The reason you seem to be frustrated is you don't understand local government. There is no LEA there is a department called Learning and Achievement headed by the Statutory Director of Education. Child Protection comes under Safeguarding and Supoort and ultimatley the Statutory Director for Social Services. There is also the Local Safeguarding Children's Board. If you bothered to read WCBC website you would know all this.

Futhermore Liberty...thanks for the accolade of Fenian.... fleet of foot and able to run through a forest without breaking a twig.... the reality is... I'm the one stumbling around Alyn Waters tripping over every exposed tree root.. if you ever go there you'll know me ... I'll be the one shouting "OUCH" every few minutes...one more point I am not a member of any Political Party but do recognise that every party has some good idea's

  18. Posted by: a cahill at 11:40 on 21 August 2010 Report

Rhys ap Ghettin... it may be the case that changes in name have taken place... but regardless of this the people with responsibility were informed including Mr H williams formerly Chief learning and achievement officer the same role as John Davies now holds under whatever name... as aI said it now has to taken outside of Wrexham for a decision and it may be wise to leave it at that until matters are concluded.. for fear as you mentioned a witch hunt or worse is instigated

  19. Posted by: liberty1 at 14:15 on 21 August 2010 Report

ANTHONY,I think your posts of 11.22/11.40 illustrate that you have not got a clue as to what you are on about ,you are a confused person ,take the following words ,made, youve ,up,cock,a,from these you can make a sentence with which you will be familiar.
